Dear Date is a journal. Your entries are yours — written for you, read by you, kept private by default. Here's exactly what we keep, where it lives, and how to take it back.

Dear Date is operated by Sunny Media LLC, a New York limited liability company.

What we keep

Where it lives

Everything sits in Supabase, our database host (Postgres on AWS, US region). Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Row-level security means your entries can only ever be read by you when you're signed in — not by other Dear Date users, and not by us snooping in the database.

Voice memos

When you record a voice memo, the audio is sent to Deepgram for transcription. The transcript comes back, gets attached to your entry, and the audio is discarded. Deepgram doesn't store the audio either — it's processed and dropped.

Subscriptions

Dear Date Plus is sold and billed by Apple through your App Store account. We use RevenueCat to know whether your subscription is active. We never see your payment details — Apple handles that.

AI reflections (Plus)

If you use the AI reflections feature, your journal entries are sent securely to Anthropic (the company behind the Claude AI model) to write your letter. This happens only when you ask for a letter — never automatically in the background. Anthropic processes the entries to generate the letter and does not use them to train its AI models. The finished letter is stored in your account like any other journal data, and deleting your account deletes it.

What we don't do

The community (when it lands)

Dear Date Plus will eventually include a community feature called the Back Porch. It will be pseudonymous — you pick a handle and an emoji avatar that aren't tied to your real name or your private entries. What you post in community is separate from your journal.

Your control

You can delete any entry from inside the app at any time. To delete your whole account and everything in it, email hi@deardate.club from the address you signed up with. We'll confirm with you, then erase everything within 7 days.

Children

Dear Date is for adults. If you're under 17, please don't sign up. We don't knowingly collect data from minors.

If something changes

If we ever change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and tell you in the app before the change takes effect.

Get in touch
